“Again
the Kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking
goodly pearls: Who when he found one pearl of great
price went and sold all that he had and bought it.”
Matthew 13: 45-46
Jesus often
taught using parables in which He used references to
earthly things to help the hearers understand spiritual
principles. This is one of the many parables Jesus used
to help his disciples understand what the Kingdom of
Heaven really was all about.
In this parable
the merchant who finds the pearl of great price –
considers it to be of such great value that he sells
everything he owns just to possess it. It becomes an
investment with eternal rewards. As Christians, we
have purchased this most valuable of processions through
our repentance and confession of Jesus Christ as Lord
of our lives.
The ultimate
price was paid by Jesus himself who willing gave all
that he had not sparing his own life, to secure eternal
life for us. He fully understood that value of the Kingdom
and purchased it with his own blood on the cross.
“Looking
to Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; Who for
the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising
the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the
throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2
