Single
parents are survivors. They are the ones who take the
lemons of life and use them to make lemonade. Even though
they may go through struggles in their lives, their
attitude can make all the difference.
A
single parent home is stereotyped as dysfunctional by
some. These people believe that their failures are the
result of not being an A typical family.
It’s
time to think outside the box. Every single parent must
filter out all of the negative messages they have accepted
from society. They also need to address their own feelings
of inadequacy. Life is filled with unexpected turns
that challenge your very existence. If experience teaches
wisdom, that means single parents are some of the wisest
people in the world.
Don’t
succumb to the thoughts about what you can’t do,
instead focus on what you can do. You should take inventory
of your financial state. The first step is to make a
budget. Next you must honor God by paying your tithes
and giving your offering. You cannot rob God and expect
to live a prosperous life. On the other hand, you have
a promise that if you are faithful to God He will be
faithful to you.
Some
divorced or separated parents are fighting to make ends
meet on half the income they used to have. Once again
your attitude makes all the difference. Stop living
in the past and face the present. Create ways to stretch
your money. You don’t have to give up on enjoying
life, just work hard at finding new and inexpensive
ways to do it.
Yes
you will need a break from time to time, and that’s
where extended family comes in. Ask for help. It doesn’t
mean you’re a lousy parent. As a matter of fact
it shows how much you care for your children.
Children are like arrows, you can point them in any
direction you choose. Through your resilience and positive
attitude they will become strong and their chance for
a successful life will increase. It’s not easy
but it can be done. You can raise intelligent, productive
and Christ-like children with the help of God.
Do your best to develop a life outside of your children
and their activities. This is a necessary outlet for
you. Many single parents long for conversation and interaction
with other adults and that’s not just normal it’s
imperative. Spending a reasonable amount of time away
from your children will decrease your stress level and
enhance the time that you spend with your children.
Be the best Mom or Dad you can be. Many times single
parents try to be both parents and that’s impossible.
God is not requiring women to be men or visa versa.
If you focus your attention on fulfilling your role
as Mom, God will do the rest. He said in His word that
He’s a father to the fatherless. You can depend
on Him to pick up where you, your finances, time and
energy leave off.
Always
remember love is the most important gift you can give
to your children. When you feel like you have nothing
left to give, give love. Trust me, it’s more than
enough.
