Slip
Slidin' Away? Modern
women don’t seem to rely on a slip anymore to hide
the many curves of their silhouette.
Gone
are the popular days of one of the most luxurious pieces
of intimate apparel ever designed. “The slip”
may be on the brink of extinction. Modern women don’t
seem to rely on a slip anymore to hide the many curves
of their silhouette. Come on ladies they are not just
for Grandma to wear under her “Sunday Best”.
But they can be very useful when you’re trying
to create a polished look.
While
it is true that many skirts and pants are made with
an inner lining, how can you wear a thin see through
garment without a lining and still maintain a modest
appearance? You don’t. I‘ve seen many young
and older women, wearing beautiful outfits, and then
the whole picture becomes tarnished. Why? Because being
able to see right through a women’s skirt is just
plain tacky, especially at church.
I
can still remember wanting to own my first full slip,
and when I finally received it I wore it with every
dress and skirt that I owned. I would dress with pride,
secretly wishing that someone would accidentally see
how beautiful the embroidery and lace trim was. Somehow
it caused me to really identify with my femininity.
I
don’t know too many women who wouldn’t enjoy
the feel of silk, satin and silky nylon against their
skin. So if its luxury and comfort you’re looking
for, try wearing a slip. Often the detail on a now vintage
slip was so exquisite; it made the wearer feel like
the queen or princess that she truly was. The thought
and detail of each intimate garment was a masterpiece
to say the least.
Where
did we go wrong? I think it all began with the burning
of the bras in the 1960’s. This may sound too
deep for some. But, all of a sudden the term “Anything
Goes”; reshaped the minds, actions, and appearance
of women then and now. However the good news is, gorgeous
slips are still being made, but now the options seem
to have no limits. They come in all shapes, sizes, and
colors; you can find one that’s right for you.
As an added bonus, you don’t have to leave the
comfort of your own home. There are many online stores,
where you can check all of the styles out and even do
a little comparison shopping.
I
now challenge women of this era to revolutionize their
standards of dress, to reflect the convictions of modesty
and moderation. Independence is not about being able
to follow the low morals of the popular culture; but
it’s having the option, yet choosing to follow
a higher standard.
