First Things First
Don’t try to be a superhero, do what you can from a pure heart and God will bless you.

It’s overwhelming to suddenly become a single parent. Whether you reached this place by divorce, or you were never married there are some common battles that must be fought. You must remember wisdom and knowledge is the key to being victorious.

Do not neglect your legal obligations because of the state of your heart. Custody and support are not personal issues; they are survival issues that must be addressed.

At first, it may seem cruel to take the person you had pledged to spend the rest of your life with to court, but it’s for the best. On the other hand do not use this as an occasion to carry out your revenge. Be transparent, and check your motives at all times. Make developing a relationship with God, a priority because this will help to keep you accountable.

The chaos that children experience during and after their parents divorce or separation can be minimized. Devote the time and energy necessary to negotiating a fair custody agreement. Try to find a mediator, or the process may drag on, causing added stress. Be realistic about child support expect, resist the thought of taking anyone to the “cleaners”.

Children function better when they are on a schedule. You are helping them to adjust and begin healing if you lessen the amount of apprehension that comes from sporadic visitations.

Always, always focus on what’s best for your children, and listen to their concerns. Don’t assume that they are too young for their opinions to matter; children feel the pain of a broken home more than you can imagine. When things are set in stone, it’s a sign that your new life has some degree of normalcy.

It’s hard to imagine but muddling through all the negotiations, and frustrations is the key to a quicker recovery. Don’t try to be a superhero, do what you can from a pure heart and God will bless you. You are not alone; you can cast all of your cares on your heavenly Father because He cares for you.
